Women’s Soccer Ends Season with a Shut Out

The Women’s Soccer Team ended their season with two consecutive shut outs. After defeating the Eureka Red Devils less than 24 hours before, the Blue Jays returned to play Blackburn College Sunday afternoon. 

The Blue Jays' momentum from the Saturday night carried over, and they shut out Blackburn 6-0.

The Blue Jays took 30 minutes to score the first goal.  LaTayisah Ousley (St. Louis, Mo. /Rosati-Kain) put the first point on the board from a cross by Alyssa Busken (Fenton, Mo. /Kennedy).  Two minutes later, Eileen Koppy (St. Louis, Mo. /Lindbergh) scored.  Westminster went into the second half up 2-0. 

Less than 10 minutes into the second half, Ashley Schimmel (Rogers, Ark. /Heritage) put in a goal.  Koppy found the goal again after a pass from Katie Koonce (Norma, Okla. /Norman) a short while later in the 69th minute. 

Koonce also assisted the next goal by senior Katy Braden (Dell City, Okla. /Midwest City). 

Westminster’s goalkeeper came in as an attacker for the second time this season, and scored in the 77th minute for her second goal in her college career.  Her goal was assisted by senior Chelsea Cole (Nixa, Mo. /Nixa). 

The Blue Jays ended the season on a high note and finished the season with a 3-5 SLIAC record (4-12 overall).
