2011 Year in Review

2011 was a memorable year for Westminster, full of academic achievement, inspiring lectures and forums, successful athletics, impactful service projects worldwide, a few goodbyes, and a lot of fun along the way. Jean Carnahan Visits WCJean Carnahan Visits Westminster

Former U.S. Senator and Missouri First Lady Jean Carnahan opened the Outstanding Missouri Women Exhibit on Jan. 24 at the National Churchill Museum. Carnahan was honored in the exhibit as the first Missouri woman to serve in the United States Senate. Read the News Release

Ben Folds
Ben Folds Performs

Popular music group Ben Folds performed at Westminster on January 31 despite bad winter weather. In fact, the bad weather held up Ben, so he filmed part of a music video here! Students can be viewed in Champ at about 3:57- watch the video here.


B-BallMen's & Women's Basketball Win SLIAC Titles

The 2010-11 Westminster College basketball seasons were indeed a success. The Blue Jay men and women pulled off a rare double with both teams winning St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC) league titles. This was the first time that feat has been accomplished in school history. Read More


In February, a massive blizzard hit the Midwest, causing record snowfall resulting in school closings all over Missouri.


Kemper LectureChurchill Weekend

Many attended this popular annual March event to honor Winston Churchill, listen to a variety of lectures and speeches, and visit campus and the museum. Watch the Lectures

Kemper Lecture

The Kemper Lecture was held on Churchill Weekend celebrating the 65th Anniversary of the Iron Curtain Speech. Sir Max Hastings, author of "Winston Churchill: The Indispensable Man", gave the Kemper Lecture and signed books afterward.

Over 150 Westminster students present their research and projects during the Undergraduate Scholars Forum on April 14. A wonderful celebration of our students and their success!

Churchill's Granddaughter Dedicates New Sculpture

The National Churchill Museum on Westminster's campus welcomed a new sculpture of Winston Churchill on the plaza of its entrance. Acclaimed St. Louis sculptor Don Wiegand will unveiled his "Iron Curtain" sculpture at the museum during a public ceremony on May 13. Edwina Sandys, Granddaughter of Sir Winston Churchill and artist of the "Breakthrough" sculpture, spoke at the event to honor this new piece of artwork that celebrates the life of her grandfather. Blue Jay Road Trip

The 3rd Annual Blue Jay Across the USA tour kicked off in June and took four students to 23 events, 26 cities, 13 states, across 24 state lines, traveling over 6500 miles traveled in five weeks. We can't thank everyone enough who sponsored this tour, attended events, and helped make it a roaring success! Relive the Road Trip

Westminster Fund Exceeds its Goal for 2011

Congratulations to the Westminster Fund team - the Fund has ended fiscal year 2011 at 119.29% of their original goal of $500,000. The final total for the year is $656,144.95. Giving in 2011 was remarkable, especially considering the economic uncertainty. Thanks to all of the continued support of our alumni, parents and friends, the Westminster Fund has surpassed its goal in fiscal year 2011!


Projects for Peace - NepalProjects for Peace - Nepal

Making Lives Better: Mission Aqua 2011, sponsored by Westminster College and Davis Projects for Peace, has successfully brought clean drinking water to twelve schools in Nepal-and Westminster students Sneha Bhandari and Pradipti Rajbhandari are not done yet. Read the Blog


Class of 2015Welcoming the Class of 2015

For a few hours on Saturday, August 20, summer storms broke and the sun shone on Westminster's campus as the Class of 2015 gathered and walked towards the College in a traditional ceremony that has become legendary at Westminster. Immediately following, President Forsythe addressed the new class at Convocation, along with special guest speaker Samantha Cardwell '91, who spoke about the value of getting connected on campus. This special day kicked off the beginning of an exciting time for our new students - once again, we welcome you into the Westminster family! Read the Story

This year's Westminster Symposium, My Digital Life @ the Speed of Light, examined the many novel and dynamic uses of digital technology as well as its potential to revolutionize our personal and work lives through enhanced communications, online communities, and collaboration. Ruslans Petrovskis Remembering Ruslans

On September 15, 2011, Westminster College sophomore Ruslans Petrovskis passed away from injuries he sustained in a tragic bicycle accident five days before. Ruslans, an international student from Latvia, was an important member of our Westminster family, majoring in Business Administration with a Marketing emphasis, working in the Wetterau weight room, and active in campus activities. In October, Westminster announced a number of exciting new programs as the College continues to grow and make its curriculum even more relevant to today's students. As part of the Global Leaders in Residence program, former Head of the FCC and Westminster alum Al Sikes spent November 10-11 on campus as a part of the Global Leader in Residence program. Jack MarshallRemembering Mr. Westminster

John Edwards "Jack" Marshall, Westminster alum from the class of '53, passed away November 20 after a long battle with cancer. Jack was a Westminster institution and was deeply involved with the college throughout his entire life, earning him the moniker "Mr. Westminster." He started his career at Westminster as an Admissions Counselor, and went on to serve as Alumni Secretary and Director of Publicity, Dean of Men, Dean of Admissions, Vice-President for Development, Interim President, and Secretary of the Board of Trustees.
