Blue Jay Teams Both Win SLIAC Titles 


B-ball Women'sThe 2010-11 Westminster College basketball seasons were indeed a success. The Blue Jay men and women pulled off a rare double with both teams winning St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC) league titles. This was the first time that feat has been accomplished in school history.

Westminster completed its men’s regular-season SLIAC campaign with a 13-3 record to earn a share of the men’s title, marking the third year in a row the Blue Jay men took home the SLIAC league crown. The  team went 17-10 overall to record its fifth consecutive winning season, and senior Jake Vislay and sophomore Skylar Tolson received all-conference honors. Vislay was a first-team selection for the second year in a row and Tolson received second-team accolades.

While the Westminster men were continuing a record of success, the Blue Jay women recorded a Westminster first, capturing the school’s first-ever SLIAC league title in the 19-year history of women’s basketball. The Blue Jay women went 20-6 overall and went 16-0 in league play. Junior Rachel Backes became the first Westminster women to earn SLIAC Player of the Year honors and also became the first All-American in women’s basketball, earning honorable mention honors by D3 News.
