Class of 2013, English
Westminster junior Caroline Slavin spent this summer at the Winston-Salem, NC office of Mullen, a full service integrated advertising agency, interning in the new business department and working with potential clients. She performed research, implemented surveys, found new contacts to reach out to, and helped put together final pitches. She was also involved in a project with all of the other interns developing vignettes for the children's cable channel Sprout.
What did Caroline love most about her internship? “What I loved about my internship is the people! Everyone works long hours doing difficult jobs, but the creativity and constant positive energy everyone has makes it all fun and completely worthwhile.”
Caroline, an English major at Westminster, found and acquired this internship via networking with family members. She pursued this internship to see if she might want to pursue a career in advertising and marketing. Mullen has a well-established internship program, which also appealed to Caroline because she feels like an integral part of the company.
This summer, Caroline learned a lot about what motivates and inspires her in the workplace. “Through this internship I have realized that, while I may or may not end up in advertising, it is very important to me that I work somewhere with a creative and exciting energy! I am much more motivated to do my best when passionate and excited people are working with me.
