Reaching Out to Africa

Welcome to the
Rwanda Community Partnership!
The citizens of Fulton, Missouri and Callaway County are proud to introduce you to this innovative and exciting project.  It’s our goal to spread both knowledge and excitement about this new partnership - explaining how the project originated, outlining its short term and long term goals, showcasing the current and future events of the project, and highlighting ways that you can get involved and make a difference.

Overview
The Rwanda Community Partnership is a cross-community project that is bringing people together from across the world. In May 2008, Fulton and Callaway County, MO officially became the partner-city of Kibungo, a rural town in Rwanda, Africa. Since then, this partner city effort has exploded into a community wide effort between schools, churches, individuals and even businesses in the effort to connect with the culture and people of Rwanda.

Special Focus of the Community Partnership
Definitely, this partner city project will lead to increased cultural awareness and understanding for both the citizens of Callaway County and the citizens of Kibungo, Rwanda. One of the most important and exciting components to this project, however, is the kickoff effort to raise funds to build a health clinic in a rural area of Kibungo. Sam Richman worked closely with Rwandan children during her summer 2008 visit.

The people of Fulton and Callaway County will band together as they strive to raise $100,000 to build this much needed clinic.  Our hope is that the county will work through May 2009 to raise the funds and then begin construction of the clinic soon after.

Although this is a big endeavor indeed, it is merely the beginning of all that this project can and will accomplish with the ongoing Rwanda Community Partnership.
