What is Recruitment?

Men's Recruitment is a long-standing tradition at Westminster College. The process can seem intimidating, but it is in fact only designed to help you familiarize yourself with our six fraternities and, in turn, to let them get to know you a bit as well.  You may already have been in some contact with our men's organizations as part of a Summer Recruitment effort on their part.........but if not, you have nothing to worry about.

The Men's Recruitment process is , you will go through a week-long rush process.  The first three nights will be informal and allow you to become familiar with fraternity life at Westminster.  Rush begins on Monday, August 22 with an all Greek BBQ.  The purpose of this activity is to encourage discussion between possible rushees and members of fraternities.  On Tuesday, there will be a meeting hosted by the Westminster Interfraternity Council that all students going through rush will attend.  This meeting will provide information about rush and Westminster Greek Life.  The last day of informal rush is Wednesday, August, 24.........and the details of that event will be available when you are on campus.

The last three days of rush (August 25-27) are formal and you will be assigned to one of the six groups led by a member of the Interfraternity Council.  Starting on Thursday night you will wear dress clothes and attend three "Rush Parties" which are non-alcoholic opportunities for you to learn about each group (you'll visit the remaining three chapters on Friday evening) and meet some of the members of those chapters.  How do you get to these parties?  You start in the Quad (the freshman housing area) and walk in line down the row on the opposite side of Westminster Avenue from the chapters'all the while; the members of each chapter will be out front playing music and cheering you on.

On Friday, after all parties are finished, members of each chapter will join the Greek Advisor to select attendees for their "preference event" held on Saturday.  You may be invited to up to three of these parties, and after they conclude alumni from each chapter join the Greek Advisor to select their pledge classes.   Rushees congregate on the steps of Champ Auditorium on Saturday night to receive their bids, which are formal invitations to become pledges of one chapter or another.

After a period of affiliateship that spans the rest of Fall semester (during which affiliates may switch chapters), an eight-week pledge education process begins in January.  Once this process is complete and initiation has taken place, pledges are full voting members of their fraternities.
